thank you to mission year!
Mission Year is a year long urban ministry program focused on Christian service and discipleship. We take teams of people, place them in an area of need, and help them to serve people and create community. We are committed to the command of Jesus to “love God and love people,” by placing the needs of our neighbors first and developing committed disciples of Christ with a heart for the poor.
Welcome to big beautiful ward!
We are the St. Johns Mission Year Team of 2013; creators of the Big Beautiful Ward Documentary and the Big Beautiful Ward Project. This Project was started when we decided that we would like to fight back against the stigma's and stereotypes attached to neighborhoods like the one we have lived in this year, as well as give our neighbors a platform to voice their hopes and dreams. POGO AND SHINE PRODUCTIONS
The name pogo and shine was founded from a mad lib game we played as a team a few months before making the documentary. To us it means fulfilling your purpose and living life abundantly. During the game, another phrase surfaced "only gnomes are susceptible to depression," which is why we chose a gnome to be on the pogo stick. Our logo is a reminder to have fun while striving for excellence.
